KAMPALA UGANDA: 04 MAY 2026— While many economic initiatives focus solely on balance sheets, Uganda’s GROW Project is taking a radical detour through the heart of the home.

Launched in March 2023, the Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) initiative is currently rolling out a unique advocacy campaign that links domestic “shared respect” directly to national GDP. Implemented by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development and the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), with funding from the World Bank, the project argues that the next great Ugandan enterprise isn’t just built in a factory—it’s built on a foundation of household support.

The “Respect” ROI: A New Economic Metric

The project’s latest messaging, “Respect her voice. Support her choices,” moves away from traditional charity models. Instead, it treats male allyship and community leadership as essential business infrastructure.

According to the project’s framework, when men and community leaders champion women’s professional decisions, the dividends are three-fold:

The Domestic Dividend: Enhanced family stability and “stronger families.”

The Productivity Dividend: Streamlined business operations as women gain the autonomy to innovate.

The Community Dividend: A more competitive local economy that can stand its ground against international markets.

The GROW Project isn’t just about adding more names to the business registry; it’s about productivity and competitiveness. By focusing on women-owned enterprises, the Government of Uganda is targeting the demographic with the highest potential for community reinvestment.

”Support from men and leaders towards women’s ideas and decisions strengthens families, businesses, and communities,” the project notes, framing gender equality as a pragmatic strategy for wealth creation rather than a mere social obligation.

To turn this philosophy into profit, the GROW Project has established a grassroots network of District and City Focal Persons across Uganda. These officials act as the bridge between government resources and local entrepreneurs, ensuring that the project’s ambitious goals reach every village and trading center.

Need Support?

The project remains highly accessible through its dedicated Toll-Free line: 0800307777, offering a direct link to resources for women looking to scale their ventures.

By placing “shared respect” at the center of its economic strategy, the GROW Project is betting that the key to a stronger Ugandan economy starts with a simple shift in how we value women’s voices at home.
