President Yoweri Museveni urged Ugandans, especially the bazukulu, to only heed his message of social economic transformation focusing on commercial farming, saying they will never again complain of job scarcity.
The president made the remarks on Monday as he resumed his zonal PDM assessment tours, this time in the Teso sub-region following two successful tours in Bukedi sub-region and Greater Kibaale in Bunyoro, Western Uganda.
In a statement, Museveni shared an experience from his first stop in Serere District where he met a one Joseph Ijara who listened to his message back in 2011 and is now earning over 600 million shillings per year in net profit from dairy farming, poultry, and manufacturing bar soap, all this on just 2.5 acres.
“He was a taxi driver who came to one of my rallies, but after he was delayed there, he lost his job. That’s when Ijara decided to use his resources to create wealth. He listened, acted, and is now reaping the benefits. To those who complain about job scarcity, I say: follow Ijara’s example. Apply what we teach, and you will see results.” President Museveni stated.
“My second stop was a visit to Kapelebyong District to check on Betty Atia, a PDM beneficiary who is rearing pigs. She shared her journey of starting with 1 million shillings, enabling her to buy piglets and invest in a better pigsty. I was impressed by her resilience; despite challenges like feeding and stray pigs, her determination is evident! We shall support her efforts with land and fencing.” He noted.
The president’s final stop was a visit to the home of Her Excellency the Vice President, Jessica Alupo, in Katakwi District where he was pleased to learn that the family land has enabled them to concentrate on poultry, piggery, fish farming, bananas, and dairy farming, and they are doing well. He said;
“I, therefore, urge the people in the Teso Sub-region to prioritise the fight against land fragmentation if they want to have any meaningful development”
Today, the president is expected to hold a meeting with the leaders of the Teso region in Kumi district.
