Former Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB), Executive Secretary, Mathew Bukenya is dead.
Bukenya died on Sunday night and his death has been confirmed by UNEB Spokesperson Jennifer Kalule.
Bukenya, who retired from UNEB on March 31, 2016, was initially called out of retirement in April 1995 to lead the national examination body having previously served as an accountant.
He took over from David Livingstone Ongom, who had been dismissed from office. At the time of his appointment, UNEB was grappling with widespread examination malpractices.
Under Bukenya’s leadership, the board made significant strides in curbing these issues. UNEB stated that Bukenya will be remembered for his guidance and mentorship to all he worked with at the institution.
By the time of his retirement, Bukenya had been at the helm of UNEB for over 17 years, surpassing the mandatory retirement age for public sector employees.
