President Yoweri Museveni has held discussions with the Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali as the world seeks a solution to the unrest in the Tigray region.
Prime Minister Abiy arrived in Uganda on Sunday morning on a one day working visit on an invitation from President Museveni, according to State House.
The two leaders met and held bilateral discussions on various issues on strengthening cooperation between both countries.
“Uganda and Ethiopia are strong partners and copperate in trade and various peace processes in the region” State House tweeted.
PM Ahmed Abiy is accompaned by Ethiopian Minister Hon Binalf Anduwalem, State for Foreign Affairs Redwan Hussain and HE Alemtsehay Meseret, the Ambasador to the Republic of Uganda.
After the conflict broke out in Tigray in November last year, an Ethiopian delegation led by the Deputy Prime Minister, Demeke Mekonnen Hassen also met president Yoweri Museveni in Gulu Nothern Uganda.
It was later stated that discussion focused on the peace and security issues affecting Ethiopia and the region but especially the Tigray crisis.
The conflict has since escalated into a humantarian crisis with more than 1000 people dead and millions on the verge of dying due to hunger. The conflict has also spread to two other regions of Amhara and Afar with Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) fighing with the Federal Government forces.
After the November meeting, Museveni said Africa’s problem is failure to discuss ideology but rather focusing so much on diplomacy. He also stated that he disagrees with politics that focus on ethnic federalism and he emphasised the issue of oneness and common interests because it is the only way Africans can prosper.
