MENGO, March 29, 2025 – His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, has urged Muslims to actively speak out against nepotism and other practices that promote unfairness in society in Uganda. The Kabaka’s appeal is in his message to Muslims on the occasion of Eid el-Fitr, which will be celebrated globally by believers in Islam, tomorrow Sunday 30th March 2025, marking the end of the Ramadan month of fasting.
In his message, the Kabaka decried the recurring acts of violence, envy and hate, witnessed of recent in Uganda. He urged Muslims to boldly speak against all forms of discrimination when it comes to government jobs, emphasizing the importance recruitment of people on merit regardless of their backgrounds or affiliations.
Kabaka Mutebi attributed these actions to having ungodly people in offices of responsibility, and therefore Muslims should endeavor to nurture their children to understand the importance of fasting and mutual love. He encouraged Muslim leaders to guide their followers in advocating for good governance and equitable distribution of resources, reiterating that fairness is a key component of a just society.
The Kabaka also reminded citizens of their civic responsibility especially during the current political season, urging them to pray for peaceful elections but also to elect only credible and patriotic leaders.
