The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party Chairman, president Yoweri Museveni has urged his supporters, party leaders and members to check out their eligibility to vote in the 2026 general elections but also participate in the ongoing process to clean up the national voter’s register.
This follows the roll-out of the verification exercise and update of the national voter’s register by the Electoral Commission, which commenced today 7th January 2025 and expected to run up to 10th January 2025. During the exercise, the registered voters’ names will be displayed at every polling station in Uganda to enable voters confirm their eligibility to participate in elections.
In a letter addressed to the members of CEC, NEC, NRM MPs and all party leaders, Museveni emphasized the importance of the exercise;
“This is the verification to confirm that your name and the names of people you know in your area, are on the register…” President Yoweri Museveni noted.
“I am, therefore, sending out this appeal to request all of you, the leaders and all supporters of NRM, to go out during the period indicated above so as to check and ensure that your names are on the registers and also help in updating those registers by removing the dead and adding the names of the new voters -those who turned 18 years of age” The president stressed.
According to the updated Electoral Commission election Roadmap, nomination of Municipality/City Special Interest Group candidates will commence in July this year, nominations for positions of leadership in Local governments and Parliament will be in September while nominations for Presidential candidates on 2nd and 3rd October.
Polling period for Presidential, Parliamentary and Local governments councils will be between 12th January and 9th February 2026.
