Uganda’s president Yoweri Museveni has appointed Lieutenant General Wilson Mbasu Mbadi the new Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces -UPDF.
Lt Gen Mbadi replaces General David Muhoozi who was elected to represent the army in parliament and recently appointed State Minister for Internal Affairs.
A senior military officer in the UPDF, Lt Gen Mbadi was serving as the Deputy Chief of the Defense Forces and Inspector General of the UPDF before the appointment.
He was appointed to that position in January 2017, replacing Lieutenant General Charles Angina, who became Deputy Commander of Operation Wealth Creation.
President Yoweri Museveni, the Commander in Chief has appointed Lieutenant General Wilson Mbasu Mbadi the new Chief of Defense Forces – CDF.
Other appointments announced today include Lt Gen Muhoozi Keinerugaba who has been named new commander of Land Forces and Lt Gen Peter Elweru -the new Deputy CDF. Muhoozi Keinerugaba is president Museveni’s son. The new appointments take immediate effect.
Mbadi replaces General David Muhoozi who was recently appointed as the State Minister for Internal Affairs.
Lieutenant General Mbadi is a senior military officer in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
He was serving as the Deputy Chief of the Defense Forces and Inspector General of the UPDF.
He was appointed to that position in January 2017, replacing Lieutenant General Charles Angina, who became Deputy Commander of Operation Wealth Creation.
Prior to his former position, from May 2013 until January 2017, he served as the Joint Chief of Staff of the UPDF, where he was replaced by Major General Joseph Musanyufu.
Wilson Mbadi joined the Uganda military in 1986. In 1991, he was commissioned, following the completion of a one-year Officer Cadet course at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, in the United Kingdom. While at Sandhurst, he graduated at the top of his class. In 1992, he attended the Platoon Commander’s Course at the Uganda School of Infantry, at that time located in Jinja. In 1994, he attended the Uganda Junior Staff College, also at Jinja.
He has taken on several role and responsibilities in the army and served in several capacities.
