Uganda’s Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja is on spot for unpaid car hire services her office incurred during her recent travel to attend the UN General Assembly in New York.
The demand for payment for monies amounting to US$10313.75 was made in a letter by the permanent representative of Uganda’s Mission to the UN Amb. Adonia Ayebare whose office hired the vehicle on Nabbanja’s behalf.
In New York, PM Nabbanja was attending the Women Leaders Forum on 20th September 2022 on invitation by the president of the UN General Assembly and the Executive Director of UN Women.
The mission hired the vehicle for the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister and her delegation from NY Executive services from 17-21 September 2022 however the car and the driver were used beyond the agreed hours which attracted an additional charge for overtime and toll fees. According to the letter dated 29 September 2022, the fees remain unpaid.
This is to request you therefore that the money be remitted to the mission account as soon as possible so that the invoice is settled. Please note that delays in payment of the invoice will attract surcharges” The letter reads in part.
Kasambya MP hon. David Kabanda commented on his Twitter account @DaudiKabanda: From a National to an International embarrassment. Uganda is officially a laughing stock globally.
Officials close to the Prime Minister we talked to declined to comment on the matter saying they do not have the authority to do that.
