Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among has strongly condemned the tendency by a section of MPs who have taken to the media to object to the deduction of UGX.1million directed towards the Jacob Oulanyah Education Trust Fund.
“I have been following some news and the statements that some of us make in regard to the UGX.1million that we passed in this House. It was passed and was adopted. UGX.1million was deducted and taken to the trust Fund. It was an agreed position by all, but you find members talking like we have removed UGX.10billion from them” Anita noted during a plenary session on Tuesday.
Last week the media was awash with reports by some MP opposing the deduction of Shs1 Million from their accounts saying they had not agreed to the idea.
It should be noted that after the demise of former Speaker emeritus Jacob Oulanyah, Parliament resolved that each MP will contribute UGX.1million towards the Oulanyah Education Trust fund in order to facilitate education of hundreds of children he was helping.
Speaker Among warned that MPs should desist from such debates since the decision was made and agreed upon by the whole House.
