The joint forces of Uganda and DRC armies under Operation Shujaa, killed an ADF Commander and six other fighters during the ongoing military operations to neutralize ISIS-affiliated Allied Democratic Force’s (ADF) terrorists.
According to a joint statement released on 13 March 20222, Abu Aden, an ADF commander of Somali origin, was killed by the UPDF in a battle at Malulu, 7KM North-West of Boga Town Eastern DRC.
Abu was killed alongside six other ADF fighters and an assortment of arms including a Submachine Gun, a Solar Panel and a Nicko Solar Battery were recovered from the terrorists.
The statement notes that Abu’s predicament followed a tip off from civilians who came to UPDF detach and reported ADF presence in the area asking for direction to Mitego, within the same area of operation.
It is however not stated which position the deceased commander held in ADF ranks.
On 28th February 2022, another foreign ADF terrorist of Tanzanian origin only identified as Nfurusii was gunned down at Kilunga near Nobili-Busunga border point.
The statement asserts that the elimination of foreign fighters in the ongoing operation Shujaa, further confirms ADF’s links with international terrorist groups/movements such as Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
The joint Operation Shujaa undertook by Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) and Congolese army FARDC began on November 30, 2021 and has since registered gains on the battlefronts with several fighters surrendering or being killed.
