Uganda registers 2 new cases on Friday, infections rise 85

Ministry of Health has on Friday May 1 announced that the country’s coronavirus infections had risen to 85 after two cases including a man from Masindi tested positive for the virus.

The Ministry of Health explained that two were identified following the analysis of 2,953 samples on Friday.

The confirmed cases include a 35 year old Kenyan male truck driver who arrived via Busia border.

“Our tracking system shows that he returned to Kenya,” the ministry said in a statement on Twitter adding that other case is a Ugandan male from Masindi District.

The ministry said the Masindi was confirmed on Friday May 1 during the rapid assessment survey that the Ministry is conducting to establish community transmission of COVID-19.

Out of the 2,454 samples tested, all 399 samples from the community tested negative for COVID-19

To-date, 27 truck drivers have tested positive for COVID-19; of these 17 truck drivers have returned to their respective countries while 10 are admitted at different hospitals in Uganda

A total of 15 active COVID-19 cases are admitted in hospital and in stable condition.
