Gov’t to release Report on Recent Kidnaps and Murders this Week

Interior Minister Gen. Jeje Odongo

The minister for Internal Affairs Gen. Jeje Odongo has told parliament that his ministry is still developing a statement on recent cases of kidnap and murder in the country, to be presented to parliament this week.

The minister was responding to a concern raised by Mityana Municipality MP Hon. Francis Zaake during plenary session in parliament on Tuesday, on 3 cases of kidnap and murder that rocked the country a few weeks ago.

Hon. Zaake is concerned with repeated cases of murder whose investigations have not been concluded.

He cited the case of Maria Nagirinya who was kidnapped alongside her driver Ronald Kitayimbwa in Kampala, and a more recent case of one James Kalemba whose body was found dumped in a trench in Kajjansi, Wakiso District.

According to police, investigations to ascertain the motive and identity of killers are going on, though some suspects have since been arrested in connection with the crimes.

Gen. Jeje Odongo told parliament that the matter raised by Hon. Zaake is important, and promised to present a report on the matter on Thursday this week.
