KAMPALA UGANDA: 22 APRIL 2025: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has expressed his profound sadness at the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, who he hailed Pope Francis as an extraordinary spiritual leader and a deeply respected theologian.
In a condolence message to His Eminence Pietro Paroli, Secretary of State at the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City, Museveni extended his deepest and most heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Uganda to the entire Catholic Church worldwide.
He noted the Pope’s unwavering commitment to the faith and his revitalization of the Church’s mission in an increasingly secular world. The President emphasized that Pope Francis’s voice for peace, social justice, compassion, and humility touched the hearts of millions and inspired hope among the faithful.
Furthermore, Museveni acknowledged the Pope’s readiness and enthusiasm to engage with other faiths, such as Muslims and Orthodox Christians, describing him as a religious leader who truly followed in the footsteps of Jesus, referencing the parable of the Good Samaritan.
“His legacy of love, unity, and service to humanity will endure for generations to come,” Museveni stated. He affirmed Uganda’s solidarity with Catholics in Uganda and around the globe during this time of mourning.
