“News just in indicates that Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu (Chairman), the NUP head of mobilisation has been abducted by gun-wielding men in plain clothes, who drove him off in a drone.” NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi posted on his social media platforms.
Ssenyonyi noted that Nyanzi was waylaid and pulled out of his car at around Kubiri, Mulago as he was leaving the NUP party headquarters where they had a meeting.
In another tweet, the NUP president, Robert Kyagulanyi indicated that the meeting hosted leaders from different political parties and formations to discuss the deteriorating human rights situation, where they agreed to working together on some joint actions geared towards putting an end to the crisis.
Those who attended the meeting include ANT’s Major General (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu, former Leader of opposition Hon. Winnie Kizza, FDC ‘s Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa, UPC President Jimmy Akena, and several others.
In a separate incident, Ssenyonyi indicated that his deputy, Waisswa Mufumbiro was also abducted in a similar manner and whisked away by armed men. It was later established that Wasswa escaped and ran away from his captors.
“Our legal team is doing everything possible to trace where he could have been taken. The regime is clearly in panic, especially as we step up efforts to demand for the release of all political prisoners.” Ssenyonyi noted.
It has also been established that the opposition caucus in Parliamentary will hold a joint meeting tomorrow Tuesday, the 18th, and later address the media over the matter.
