5 Guns recovered in disarmament operations by UPDF in Karamoja sub-region

Joint security forces recovered two guns after a night patrol carried out on spot cordon and search operation

Five guns were recovered in separate operations and voluntary engagement across the Karamoja Sub-region -The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) reported on Monday.

On 10th Feb 24, in Kaabong district the Joint security forces recovered two guns after a night patrol carried out on spot cordon and search operation in the suspected area of Lomonye village, Morulem parish, Kaabong East Sub County in Kaabong district.

“As a result of a fruitful effort, Sub Machine Gun (SMG) number P07743 BC and another numberless SMG with 1 and 7 live rounds of ammunition respectively were forcefully recovered. In the same operation, four male adult suspects were arrested in connection to the criminal acts and are currently held under custody at UPDF’s 45 Infantry Battalion headquarters in Kaabong district for further investigation” a news report published on UPDF socials states.

The suspects arrested during the operation were identified as; Lotyang Lokarion, Lotyang Lopote, Backhoe Lopote, and Ayollo Lopote all residents of Lomonye village, Morulem parish within Kaabong East sub county.

Seven cows, fifteen goats, four sheep and two donkeys suspected to have been stolen by the above-named suspects were also impounded for further management.

Relatedly, one-armed warrior was put out of action and SMG number 16090 with 16 live rounds of ammunition were forcefully recovered. This happened as the army pursued criminal elements in the general area of Kapsanyang, Losilang Sub County in Kotido district,

The report also confirmed that two karacuna’s took advantage of the existing Presidential Amnesty window,
and voluntarily surrendered two guns (65797 and 0374) to security forces in Amudat district.
