Police intensify manhunt for suspected ADF terrorists who sneaked into Uganda

The Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force of CMI, ISO, CT and CI have put up a serious manhunt for two notorious ADF suspects reported to have sneaked into the country and instigated various terror attacks.

According to an alert issued by Uganda Police on December 04, 2023 the suspects are wanted for their alleged roles in the string of attacks using IEDs within the Central Business District of Kampala and Butambala, and for other terror attacks along the Kasese Bundibugyo axis, with the DRC.

The male suspects whose portrait have been published in media were allegedly involved in two separate bomb incidents in the Kampala District over the weekend -one in Kabalagala in Makindye Division and another one in Nabweru in Nansana Municipality. No fatalities however were reported in both incidents save for injuries that were suffered by one person in Kabalagala.

According to the Deputy Spokesperson of Defense ministry, Col. Deo Akiiki, one of the suspects has been identified as Habib Suleiman commonly known as Kijana a field commander in ADF ranks, and has undertaken various assignments to plant bombs and explode them including those that security intercepted recently at Miracle Center Church in Rubaga, Bunamwaya and Natete.

Habib is the same person behind simultaneous bomb incidents that went off over the weekend. “The goal of the wanted terror suspects is to murder Ugandans, and also cause panic and fear within the community”. Col. Deo noted that security has staked a 20million bounty on Habib’s head, or in case anyone provides credible information which may lead to his arrest.

In a letter authored on December 03, 2023 president Yoweri Museveni noted that the terrorists are part of a splinter group of ADF rebels who are acting in desperation following intense pressure exerted on them by joint forces from Uganda and DRC governments in Eastern DRC.

According to the president, about 7 terrorists escaped from security during a manhunt that followed an incident in October this year when two foreign tourists and their guide were killed in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Museveni appealed to members of the public to ensure vigilance at all times and work with security agencies to stop terrorists.

“People in churches, markets, mosques, bars, etc. be vigilant and look out for strangers. The hotels and markets should have their own security as we had planned before. Maintain the vigilance until we finish up-rooting the Lumbugu in Congo.” President Yoweri Museveni wrote.
