The territorial traffic police at Masaka Central Police station has today 12th April 2023, registered a fatal accident which claimed a life of one person and left seven others injured.
According to a statement from the directorate of traffic, the accident occured at aroubd 5:30AM involved a Kenyan registered trailer; KBD 88Y/ZCB9381 at Soweto Masaka City.
ASP Faridah Nampiima, the PRO Traffic and Road Safety Directorate indicates that the trailer was loaded with matooke was from Mbarara but when it reached Soweto market in Masaka City’ where most the vendors were to offload their matooke, it failed to break and later overturned, killing one person on spot.
With the help of the Police Fire Brigade, red cross, police ambulance, Mulago Referral Hospital ambulance 7 were rushed to Masaka Referral hospital and Mulago respectively for first aid treatment.
According to Nampiima, the dead has been identified as Namanda Rebecca a resident of Nyendo Masaka City and her body conveyed at Masaka Mortuary for postmortem examination.
