Police identifies occupants of a car that rammed into Lord Mayor’s residence

Police have established the identities of the driver of the vehicle which on Saturday evening rammed through the the gate of the residence of the Lord Mayor for Kampala Elias Lukwago triggering fear and anxiety among his family members.

It has been established that the vehicle had two occupants; the driver, Fred Kiweewa, and another only identified as Mariam, who was a passenger.

The accident happened at Lukwago Road, Mengo, in Rubaga Division Saturday at about 7pm when a Subaru, silver in color registration number UAJ 704K allegedly lost control and rammed into the Lord Mayor’s residence

The vehicle which ploughed through the compound of the Lord Mayor’s residence was stopped by one of the concrete pillars supporting his posh home.

According to the Deputy Spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan Police Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident has been registered at Old Kampala Police Division as a serious accident.

Owoyesigyire stated that the driver (Kiweewa) is currently detained at Old Kampala Police Division as investigations into the matter continue while the female victim (Mariam) is admitted at Mulago hospital having sustained minor injuries.

However, Owoyesigyire could not provide more details about the driver and the passenger saying additional information will be provided later in the afternoon after Kiweewa has been subjected to further interogation.

He also noted that a team of police officers responded at the residence of the Lord Mayor to establish the facts behind the accident and more findings will be communicated in due course.
