The two English sides maintained a 0-0 tie even after 120 minutes (with extra time) leading to a penalty shoot out.
Liverpool was ahead after four shots saw the back of the Chelea’s net but goalkepper stopped Eduardo Mendy stopped Sadio Mane’s shot providing the blues a lease to life.
Earlier Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta hit the post with his side’s second spot-kick, only for Edouard Mendy to pull off a save from his Senegal international team-mate Sadio Mane.
After Mount missed his sixth Wembley final defeat was secured by Kostas Tsimikas slotting home the clinching penalty.
So the quadruple is still on – although Liverpool are limping on towards glory, with Mo Salah and Virgil Van Dijk both withdrawn during the first Wembley FA Cup Final.
