Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has insisted he will not resign, despite Sunday’s humiliation at Old Trafford as his side received a 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool.

In recent weeks, pressure has been mounting on the 48-year-old amid a poor run of Premier League results, and a Mohamed Salah hat-trick which fired their rivals towards an emphatic victory on Sunday did not make things any better.

Boos were heard around Old Trafford at half-time as United found themselves 4-0 down at the break, with many supporters leaving early, while the second half saw another goal fly in and a red card for midfielder Paul Pogba.

Solskjaer, though, was defiant after the game insisted he still has the man for the club; “We’ve gone too far as a group, we’re too close, we can’t give up now.”

“I do believe in myself, I do believe that I am getting close to what I want with the club.” Ole said.

Expectations were high for United this season after a summer which saw them sign England star Jadon Sancho, costing £73m, and the return of Cristiano Ronaldo.

But after nine Premier League games, United sit seventh with 14 points – eight behind leaders Chelsea, seven behind Liverpool in second, and six back on Manchester City.

Paul Scholes wants Pogba out

Man United legend Paul Scholes believes Paul Pogba should never play for Manchester United again after he was sent off in their 5-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

Scholes has now called on United to offload Pogba and is adamant that the midfielder will not be missed if he left Old Trafford in January.

‘To say a disappointing day would be a complete understatement,’ Scholes was quoted in an interview with Premier League Productions.

‘I think we all realise it’s been difficult, I just think the manager got caught up in the emotion of the comeback [against Atalanta] on Wednesday night.

‘We keep going back to that game but you were never going to do that against Liverpool, they have too much quality.

‘I don’t think it was a lack of effort, I think tactically they were set up in a way where this could happen and unfortunately it did happen.

‘Paul Pogba coming on to the pitch at half time to try to help the team and maybe get a little bit of respectability about it, tries to stand on the ball, tries to show how strong he is in the middle of the pitch… gives the goal away…”
