You did not qualify for the flag -NUP responds to Mabike’s rants

National Unity Platform (NUP) has disputed claims that Hon. Micheal Mabike was rigged out during the selection process for the party’s flagbearer for Makindye East constituency.

The response follows Mabike’s continuous rants that he was unfairly edged out of the race for the party’s flag having scored the highest marks during the selection process and instead, declared a one Derick Nyeko the winner.

While appearing on NBS Television on September 30th, NUP says Mabike claimed he knows that the Elections Management Committee scored him 98% in terms of prudently answering their questions and 99% in terms of being the strongest aspirant on the ground. Mabike also accused NUP SG, Lewis Rubongoya to be behind the mess in the vetting process.

According to a document released by NUP Election Management Committee, Mabike only scored 22 points out of 50 before the vetting committee, and 37 out of 50 from the ground study, earning himself a paltry 59 per cent contrary to the 96 per cent he claims to have scored.

NUP says Mabike’s competitor, Nyeko Derrick, scored a total of 78% against Mabike’s 59%. The same scores were forwarded to the office of the party secretary general for consideration by the Executive Board which determined the outcome -NUP says.

“It is therefore not true that his results or those of any other candidate were tampered with” the document signed by NUP Election Management Committee Chairperson, Mercy Walukamba reads in part.

NUP also claims Mabike made similar allegations three days later while appearing on Top Radio where he claimed he garnered 48/50 before the committee and 48/50 from ground survey.

NUP says Mabike did not qualify for the NUP flag for Makindye East having scored less marks, and therefore he should not go on to discredit the party’s selection process.

NUP adds that while it is not their practice to release candidates’ scores, Mabike’s continuous misleading statements especially in media, pushed them to make a clarification.
