Court asks DPP to Prosecute Gen. Tumukunde or have him acquitted

Kampala City Hall Court Magistrate Valetian Tumuhimbise has given prosecution handling the treason case against Presidential aspirant also former security Minister, Lt Gen. Henry Tumukunde, the last chance to conclude investigations in this case and send him to the High court for trial or he will have to dismiss the case on that day.

In company of his Lawyer Geoffrey Turyamusiima, Gen Tumukunde has reported back to Court this morning but the prosecutor in this case did not come to inform court about DPP’s position in this matter, which prompted Tumukunde’s Lawyer to ask court to dismiss the case.

Magistrate Tumuhimbise gave DPP the last adjournment to 23rd/September/2020 or else he dismisses the case.

Tumukunde was on 18th/March/2020 arraigned in court on charges of Treason and Unlawful possession of firearms and ammunitions.

He is alleged to have made statements through interviews conducted on Radio and TV stations which seek to promote hatred, violence, encouraging a neighboring country to support him to overthrow the current Government and instigating a mutiny within the armed forces.

He is said to have committed the Treason offence on 5th/March/2020, at NBS Television Kamwokya in Kampala.

Its further alleged that on 13th/March at his office Impala Avenue in Kololo, Tumukunde was found in illegal possession of 2 guns; an Ak47 and a pistol plus 34 rounds of ammunitions without a valid firearm licence.

He has since denied the allegation and is out on bail.
