Cessation of movement in and out of Nairobi, Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa and Mandera counties has been extended for a further period of 21 days.
The new development as a measure to stop the spread of coronavirus in Kenya was announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday.
Movement in and out the Nairobi Metropolitan area has been restricted for the last 21 days in a partial lockdown thaat was announced on 4th April 2020.
The lockdown is meant to contain spread of COVID-19 with the Capital City established as the major of four identified hotspots.
The daily 5am – 7pm curfew shall also be extended for a further period of 21 days said President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kenya now has 343 confirmed cases up from 336 yesterday one of the highest in the region. Kenyatta however thanked Kenyans on the frontline in the fight against coronavirus.
“We extend our appreciation to the health and security personnel standing at the forefront of the war against the coronavirus pandemic…While we mourn the 14 who have succumbed, we celebrate the 98 recoveries we have seen so far.”
