Government will start distribution of relief food to vulnerable urban poor affected by the lockdown on Saturday, 4th April 2020, Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda has said.

The distribution will start in Kampala and Wakiso, and it will be done at LC 1 level by the Chairperson supported by police and UPDF.

The relif program will cover a population of 1.5million people.

According to the statement this website has seen, the relief package will include Maize floor, 6KG per head, Beans 3KG per head and salt. Lactating mothers and the sick will receive 2KG of powdered milk, and 2KG of sugar.

Uganda is currently under partial lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak, which has adversely affected livelihoods of the population.

There has been discontent over the survival strategy in the population especially in urban areas ever since President Museveni issued stay-home directives last week as a measure to curb the spread of COVID-19.
