Lyantonde murders, Key Suspect Arrested

Police says a key suspect in Lyantonde shootings has been arrested; File.

Police has confirmed the arrest of a key suspect in the murder of 3 people in Lyantonde on Sunday night. The suspect has been identified as Kakuru Ben after a search in his house led to recovery of 14 bullets.

On the fateful night, Francis Rwabagabo, 60 and his wife Kellen Nakato , 38 were shot dead inside their home in Kaliiro town by unknown assailants who later raided Rwabagabo’s in-law Leokadia Kiiza and shot her dead.

Kakuru was arrested on Monday in a joint security operation involving Police Flying Squad and CMI from Rwampara, Mbarara Disrict. According to Police, the Deputy IGP Maj. Gen. Sabiiti Muzeyi is still leading a team of detectives in the area though, the team is yet to recover the killer gun.

DIGP Sabiiti Muzeyi has instructed the teams to remain in the area until all prime suspects are arrested. A few days ago, police rolled out a reviewed security plan to combat violent criminality in Kampala Metropolitan area as part of a wider strategy to curb rising insecurity in the country.
