Uganda’s heavyweight powerlifter Roy Mubiru won another gold medal at the 2019 WPA World Cup powerlifting Invitational Championships held in Bremerton Washington on Sunday.

Mubiru won his age group category of 40-45 years under the 124kg tested raw class.

This brings it to a total of four gold medals Mubiru has won this year; two won at 2019 World cup of Powerlifting Championships that were held in Ukraine in May this year, and another gold he picked earlier at World Cup warm-up at 32rd Annual CAN-AM International Championships that were held in Brattleboro,USA.

However, Mubiru missed out on breaking a world record in his category which required him to undertake a total lift of 2000 kilograms in three styles; deadlift, squat and bench press.

He said he plans to make another attempt to break this world record in May next year, in Canada.

Mubiru will be part of the Uganda team participating in the inaugural All African Nations powerlifting Championships at MTN Arena in Kampala on 3rd, November 2019. The event will attract seven African countries including Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and the host Uganda as Rwanda and Tanzania are yet to confirm.
