The State Minister for Information Communications and Technology (ICT) Hon. Aida Nantaba is reportedly planning to flee the country after reports emerged that She is currently seeking political asylum from Canada.

The issue was raised in parliament on Thursday afternoon by Hon. Roland Kaginda MP Rukungiri Municipality, during the Prime Minister’s question Time with the legislator seeking clarity on the matter.

Hon. Mugume said that he received reports from a whitsleblower alleging that Minister Nantaba is seeking political asylum in Canada fearing for her life in Uganda.

However, the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda dismissed the reports and said Nantaba is in Canada on official duty.

“Right Hon. Speaker, I would like to dismiss reports that Hon. Aida Nantaba is seeking political asylum and i want to confirm that She is officially in Canada on official duty” said Ruhakana Rugunda.

Minister Nantaba who is also a Woman Member of Parliament for Kayunga District has had a rough political career dogged with controversies with herself often coming out openly to allege that her life is in danger.

In March 2019, Nantaba made a similar alarm when suspected assailants on a bodaboda confronted her resulting in the murder of one Sebulime Ronald. The motive and the consequential death of Ronald Sebulime remains a mystery since no formal report has been released to that effect.

Sebulime was shot dead by police officers while on handcuffs.

Ms Nantaba was reportedly with her bodyguard attached to the Special Forces Command (SFC) when the incident occurred.
His brother Mr Lugoloobi said the bodyguard did not fire at the suspected thugs as he feared that the minister could be caught in cross fire.
