2 Former M23 rebels arrested, Linked to the Murder of Kisoro Lawyer

Security operatives in the South Western district of Kisoro are holding 6 people in connection with the gruesome murder of Isaac Sendegeya, a lawyer who was shot dead last month at his home in Kisoro District.

The arrested are; Munyaneza Charles a.k.a Serusha Saddam 33, and Claude Ndagizimana 42, Steven Mfitundinda a.k.a. Season 29, Scola Nyiramajembere 59, Mvano a.k.a. Vianny Issah 24, and Hagamukwiha Asuman 59.

Isaac Sendegeya was shot dead by unknown gunmen at the door of his home at about 1:00 am on Sunday morning 21st July 2019, shortly after he had parked his vehicle.

Two of the suspects Munyaneza Charles and Ndayizimana Claude are Congolese nationals and former M23 rebels.

Reports indicate that on Saturday, Munyaneza, a resident of Nakivale Refugee Resettlement camp in Isingiro District presented himself to Mbarara Police Station after receiving information that he was being suspected to have killed Sendegeya. He was later has taken to Kisoro Police Station for interrogation.

Ndagizimana Claude also claiming to be a refugee and resident of Bunagana Town Board, partly admitted the offense and further alleged that Scola Nyiramajambere a resident of Bunagana (arrested last month together with other four) is the one who hired the assailants.

Mr. Richard Ndyana, the Mayor Kisoro Municipality confirmed the arrests. He said the case file of the suspects has been submitted to the DPP’s office for perusal and legal guidance.
