“I m very happy the Uganda Cranes went up to the last 16 and I know we will perform better next time….”

On return from duty at AFCON in Egypt where they were ejected from the competition by the Senegalese team, the National Football Team -the Cranes have something to smile about. President Museveni has donated 1.3bn shillings ($1m) to the Cranes for the job well done.

The Presidents 1 million dollar donation was made in a meeting with the players during a luncheon hosted by himself at State House Entebbe.

Museveni hailed the Cranes performance having made it through group stages before getting knocked out by Senegal.

“I m very happy the Uganda Cranes went up to the last 16 and I know we will perform better next time. I will organize 1m dollars with government to distribute it among the players and officials. of course the officials will not get as much as the players” Museveni said in a tweet on his official social media platform.

Museveni said the national team made a good effort and achieved reasonable success but questioned the stamina of players having conceded a single goal that sealed their exit from the continental tournament.

The Cranes bowed out of AFCON following a 1-0 loss to Senegal, crashing all the prospects of progressing to a stage they last achieved in 1978 when the national team played in the Championship finals against Ghana.
