Uganda is not planning to invade Kenya -Gov’t disowns Gen Muhoozi’s Twitter comments

KAMPALA UGANDA: The government of Uganda has disassociated itself from claims that its army has intentions to attack Kenya.

Through it’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government in Kampala also assured the Kenyans of the existing strong and harmonious bilateral relationship between Uganda and the government of the Republic of Kenya.

This follows a heated debate on social media in relation to comments made by Uganda’s Commander of Land Forces Gen. Muhoozi Keinerugaba implying that there could be an impending military attack on Kenya by the Ugandan Army.

In social media messages posted on his personal Twitter account on Monday, Muhoozi who is also the son to Uganda’s president Yoweri Museveni Tweeted; “It would take us, me and my army, 2 weeks to capture Nairobi” …..”After our army captures Nairobi, where should I live? Westlands or Riverside?” he added triggering social media buzz.

Gen. Muhoozi is also president Museveni’s special advisor on special operations.

In a statement dated Oct 4, the foreign ministry says the government of Uganda doesn’t conduct its foreign policy on social media nor does it depend on socoal media sources in dealing with other soverign governments.

“The foreign Affairs ministry wishes to emphasize that the government and the people of tbe Republic of Uganda treasure the existing bilateral relations with the people and government of the Reoublic of Kenya based on our shared history, common values, mutual respect, trust and desire to build a unified East African Community. To tbis end, the government of Uganda wishes to teiterate its committment to good neigjbourliness, peaceful co-existence and cooperation” the statement reads in part.

The government of Uganda therefore wishes to reiterate its cordial relationship with the Republic of Kenya and assure the people and government of the Republic of Kenya of our harnonious relationship that we value” it adds.
