Uhuru Kenyatta, William Ruto meet hours to swearing in ceremony

Outgoing Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta today met and shook hands with president-elect, William Ruto, just hours before the latters inauguration.

The two pricipal’s meeting at State House Nairobi is the first in months, with Dr Ruto stating last week that the two had also not spoken in a long time.

Mr Kenyatta is expected to hand over the presidency to Dr Ruto tomorrow following the August 9 elections which Uhuru’s preffered candidate Raila Odinga lost.

The two together with their spouses Margaret Kenyatta and Racheal Ruto also had a closed door session before Uhuru gave an address ahead of Tuesday’s event.

In the address after the meeting, Uhuru wished Dr Ruto the best as he takes over government as Kenya’s fifth President. Uhuru also noted that he will attend the inauguration ceremony and handover the instruments of power to Ruto.

Tomorrow’s event is expected to be attended by at least 20 Heads of State from across Africa at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
