Azimio la Umoja leader, Raila Odinga, has his coalition totally rejects election results for the Kenyan elections that saw Deputy President William Ruto win the presidential vote, and vowed to pursue legal means to challenge the decision in courts of law.
The veteran opposition leader who lost his fifth bid for the presidency, however urged his supporters to maintain peace and not take the law on their own hands, at a media briefing in the capital Nairobi.
Mr Odinga faulted the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati for impunity and acting against the national constitution as well as laws that govern Kenya, an act which could have plunged the country into chaos.
“The figures announced by Chebukati are null and void and will be quashed by Courts of law” Raila said.
He said, democracy in Kenya has suffered a major setback and as it stands, there is no winner of the 2022 Kenya elections and no president-elect. “In our view, there is neither a legally, validly declared winner nor a president-elect” Raila Odinga said.
“We commend the heroism of the four commissioners who braved illegal conduct of IEBC chairman as well as intimidation and blackmail” he added.
“I want to commend our supporters for keeping calm and keeping peace and urge them to continue doing so. No one should take the law into their own hands… justice will prevail” he noted.
Earlier, four IEBC commissioners led by Julian Cherera castigated Chebukati who they accused of overulling their plea to verify the results before declaring Ruto.
“The results declared are of Chebukati not those of the IEBC” Cherera said at a press breifing at Serena Hotel on Tuesday.
She said the declared results lacked a critical ingridient which is the total number of votes cast which support the percentages and the summation of the total was 100.1 percent.
