Kenya elections: IEBC official goes missing

The Returning Officer for Embakasi East Mr. Daniel Musyoka is missing -Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati said.

In his update on Friday evening, Chebukati said Musyoka was reported missing while on duty, Thursday morning at East African School of Aviation tallying centre in Embakasi in Embakasi County.

“I wish to announce that our officer -the Returning Officer for Ebakasi East is missing…” he said.

Chebukati says, reports received by the Commission indicate that Musyoka went missing at around 9AM on 11th of August while he was escorted from the house to the tallying centre by his bodyguard. Along the way, the Returning Officer excused himself to make a telephone call but never to return to his office.

He said Musyoka’s family and IEBC have been trying to reach the Returning Officer without success and his duties are currently being executed by the Deputy Returning Officer.

Chebukati also noted that a report of the missing person has been filed at Embakasi Police Station under occurence Book number 24/11/8/2022.

He said IEBC is highly concerned about the incident and called on security agencies to conduct a speedy investigation into the matter.
