National Unity Platform (NUP) party president, Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi has rallied residents of Greater Masaka to take the initiative to protect themselves in the wake of recent murders that have rocked the region, instead of waiting for solutions from government.

In a document posted on social media, Kyagulanyi criticizes government security systems and their capacity to stop the attacks on civilians, and implored the locals to “do best to protect themselves because they are on their own.”

Also known as Bobi Wine, Kyagulanyi’s remarks come at a time when residents in Greater Masaka Districts of Lwengo, Kyotera, Bukomansimbi and Masaka, are experiencing a new wave of terror in which more than 22 people have been hacked to death by unknown assailants within a period of one month.

“I sympathize with the residents of Masaka sub-region for the loss of your loved ones. I implore you and indeed all of us to remain vigilant and do the best we can to protect ourselves because we are on our own” Bobi Wine said.

Bobi also criticizes government security agencies for not being open especially on previous incidents that happened in the region.

He cites the 2018 killings in Greater Masaka which culminated into the mob execution of the alleged masterminds -Galiwango and Kiddawalime, as one that was full of contradictions. Bobi Wine accuses President Museveni for prematurely declaring victory over “the stupid pigs” which he also suggests could have been deliberately done for political reasons.

Bobi Wine also claims that the testimony of Resty Nakyambadde, a key witness in Kiddawalime’s mob execution, could have been a ploy to cover Nakyambadde’s culpability.

“In 2018, Nakyambadde claimed that Kiddawalime broke into her house as she was sleeping demanding for money before she raised an alarm which attracted neighbors who killed Kiddawalime. In June this year she claimed Kiddawalime entered her house and attempted to force himself onto her but she requested him to allow her wash her dirty feet -to which he allegedly agreed and even had the luxury of taking photos of her naked while she showered” He noted.

Bobi then refers to a “2019 Intelligence Report” that allegedly implicates Resty Nakyambadde and a police officer as having been part of the team behind the serial murders. He suggests governments 2018 pronouncement that it had ended killings in Masaka, were either deliberately exaggerated or it was not entirely truthful about it’s investigations.

“At best, the regime is clueless about these murders as we are. At worst, it exploited them for political capital by giving citizens false assurances tat it had netted the suspects when in fact either it had not or shielded some of them.” Kyagulanyi said.
