In June this year, while attending a Church service in Dodoma, Tanzanian president John Pombe Magufuli declared Tanzania a corona free country and stated that God had answered prayers of Tanzanians and saved them from the virus.

The Tanzanian government also stopped publishing data on the number of covid-19 cases in the country that never enforced a lockdown as a measure to prevent spread of coronavirus.

On 29 April, the last day official data was released, there were 509 cases, with 21 deaths in Tanzania. However, Mr Magufuli said that only four patients were receiving treatment in the largest city, Dar es Salaam.
