Court of Appeal set to handle 40 High risk criminal cases in a rare session

The Court of Appeal is set to handle 40 criminal appeals in a scientific session that will be held at Mbarara High Court starting Tuesday June 23rd.

The appellants are on capital offenses including murder, aggrevated defilement and rape.

Two of the murder appellants are seeking to overturn life sentences earlier imposed on them by the High Court.

According to the Court’s Ag. Registrar Ayebare Tumwebaze, Justices Elizabeth Musoke, Stephen Musota and Remmy Kasule, are set to commence the session in Mbarara via zoom meeting technology.

He said, the justices and counsel will be physically present at Mbarara High Court, but their clients will participate via zoom technology.

According to the cause list for the session, 26 of the 40 cases are murder appeals, 8 aggravated defilement, 3 aggravated robbery, 3 rape.
