Grenade explosion kill one, injur 11 in Kigali, Rwanda; online photo

Security agencies in Kacyiru sector, Gasabo District are investigating an incident of a grenade explosion in which one person died leaving 11 others with serious injuries.

The victim has been identified as Tunezerwe Jean Paul, 25, a resident of Ndera, Gasabo.

Kacyiru Sector is located in Kigali province neighboring the presidential office and number of Rwanda government ministry offices.

The explosion happened on May 07, at around 1730HRS after the victim entered the salon for a hair cut but pulled out a smoking grenade out of his pocket.

On seeing the grenade, the salon operator Nyikiza Pacific, 31, told Tunezerwe to get out of the salon. In the process, the grenade detonated instantly killing Tunezerwe.

The injured including two children aged 8 and 12, were immediately evacuated to Rwanda Military Hospital for treatment, while the dead body was taken to Kachyiru District Hospital for postmortem.

Police say preliminary investigations ruled out terrorism as the motive but investigations have commenced to ascertain the source of the grenade.
