Government officials in Rwanda forfeit salary to fight COVID-19

As an extreme measure in the fight against COVID-19, the government of Rwanda has decided to channel salaries of government officials to the fight against coronavirus.

According to a document released yesterday by the Office of the Prime Minister, all Cabinet ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Public Institutions and Senior officials in Rwanda will forfeit salaries for the month of April to the fight against coronavirus.

Government says the decision is part of the ongoing social protection initiatives, and in solidarity with Rwandans affected by the pandemic.

By yesterday evening, Rwanda had registered 104 confirmed coronavirus cases, but no death has been reported yet.
