Zimbabwe’s president Emmerson Mnangagwa will be a special guest at celebrations to mark 57th independence anniversary for Uganda come 9th October 2019, the Minister for Presidency Esther Mbayo has said on Tuesday.
Emmerson Mnangagwa (77) also known as “the corocodile” due to his political shrewdness replaced Robert Mugabe (95) who ruled Zimbabwe for 37 years, and is still regarded as one who ruled his country with an iron fist. Mugabe died in September last year in Malaysia where he had been taken for treatment.
This years national independence celebrations will be held at Sironko District Headquarters and the event will be run under the theme; “Consolidation of National Unity, Security, Freedom and Prosperity.”
President Yoweri Museveni will be the Chief Guest at the event.
According to Esther Mbayo, the choice of Sironko as the venue of the independence celebrations was premised on the fact that the district is a child of the NRM government having been curved out of Mbale in 2000.
More so, minister Mbayo said during the NRM’s leadership, Bugisu Sub-Region and Eastern Uganda has achieved tremendous progress and it provides the people in the area an opportunity to showcase this progress to the nation.
