New Ebola case confirmed in Kasese

The ministry of health on Thursday 29 August 2019 confirmed an imported case of Ebola in Kasese District, Uganda. The confirmed case is a 9 year-old female of Congolese origin who had traveled from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with her mother on 28th August 2019.

The child and its mother entered the country through Mpondwe border to seek medical care in Bwera, Kasese District. The child was identified by the screening team at the entry point with high fever, body weakness, rash and mouth bleeding.

She was isolated immediately and transferred to Bwera Hospital Ebola treatment unit where she is currently managed from.

The blood sample was drawn, sent to Uganda Virus Institute  and confirmed positive of Ebola Virus.

The ministry of health has since dispatched a team to Kasese to support the district team there and continue with activities to manage and prevent the spread of the virus.

Bwera town is located in Kasese District 472 km from Kampala City and has full capacity to handle disease outbreaks including EVD outbreaks according to the ministry of health.
