UPDF clears 19 Generals for retirement

The Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) has announced retirement of 19 of its officers.

The 19 were awarded certificates for their contribution to the UPDF and the country at large at State House, Entebbe.

President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, presided over the function and later hosted the retired generals to dinner.

Some of the generals on the list include, the UPDF representative in Parliament, Gen. Ivan Koreta and Gen. Joram Mugume.

Others that have been retired are;

Maj. Gen. Nathan Mugisha, Maj. Gen. Jim Willis Byaruhanga, Maj. Gen Samuel Turyageyenda, Maj. Gen. Timothy Mutebile Sabitti, Brig. Gen.George Gyagenda Kibirango, Brig. Gen. Mathias Sewankambo, Brig. Gen. John Baptist Mulindwa, Brig. Gen. David Kaboyo, Brig. Gen. John Mary Kaganda, Brig. Gen. Dr. Keneneth Ocen Obwot, Brig. Gen. John Mugogo Tumwebaze, Brig. Gen. Charles Wacha Angulo, Brig. Gen. Rhamadan Kyamuresire, Brig. Gen. Adolf Serwadda, Brig. Gen. Sam Kakuru, Brig. Gen. John Charles Anywah, Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Musinguzi, Brig. Gen. Francis Ochoka Ongom.

Sources say that although they applied for retirement, Gen. David Sejusa aka Tinyefunza, the former coordinator of intelligence services and Gen. Kale Kayihura, the former Inspector General of Police, are not among the retiring generals.
