MUKONO DISTRICT: 24 August 2026- The Mukono Magistrates Court has remanded Muwonge Muhammed, the LC1 Chairman of Luwunga Village, alongside Ssozi Abdalla over their alleged involvement in a massive land grabbing ring and the destruction of property valued at approximately UGX 1 billion.
The duo was arraigned following a joint operation by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). They face multiple counts of land-related offenses and will remain in custody until August 26, 2026.
According to prosecution details:
The Target Location: Block 167, Plot 81 in Kyaggwe, situated in Luwunga Village, Nama Sub-county, Mukono District.
The Estate: A 311-acre tract of land registered under Kiwanuka Stella, acting as the administrator of the estate of the late Kiwanuka Joseph Musanze.
The Method: Between October and November 2025, the accused allegedly forced their way onto the property. Ssozi falsely identified himself as the owner, while Chairman Muwonge verified forged land sale agreements issued to unsuspecting victims.
Property Theft & Damage: The group allegedly stole metallic water tanks and pumping equipment, demolished homes, and cleared extensive farmland. Destroyed crops included maize, cassava, sweet potatoes, sugar cane, tomatoes, banana plantations, and eucalyptus trees.
Muwonge and Ssozi join co-accused figures Kayongo Bonniface and Kiseka Hamuza, both of whom were previously charged and remanded over similar land grabbing allegations on the same property.
