Audit House Shocker: AG Interdicts 20 Top Officials, Sacrifices Own Nephews in Anti-Graft Blitz

The radical move serves as the opening salvo in "Operation Clean Audit House," which stems from a broader presidential directive—code-named Kisanja No Sleep—aimed at weeding out corrupt officials across government institutions.

KAMPALA UGANDA: 20 August 2026-Auditor General Edward Akol has ordered the immediate interdiction of 20 principal regional auditors following severe allegations of corruption and extortion, signaling the start of a sweeping crackdown within the anti-graft oversight agency.

The radical move serves as the opening salvo in “Operation Clean Audit House,” which stems from a broader presidential directive—code-named Kisanja No Sleep—aimed at weeding out corrupt officials across government institutions. The purge comes amid mounting pressure from Civil Society Organizations and Members of Parliament, who have increasingly questioned who audits the Auditor General following reports that staff were compromising sensitive audit queries in collusion with government Principal Accounting Officers.

Investigations are currently expanding, with up to 60 additional auditors expected to be sent out of Audit House before the end of the month pending conclusive inquiries.

Key Regional Officials Affected

The interdiction list cuts across several key regional branches:

Arua Branch: Principal Auditor Martine Wamboza and his deputy, Ivan.

Masaka Branch: Principal Auditor Hilda Bakojja alongside her deputies, Nathan Mutebi and Herbert Nlwebuga.

Mbale Branch: Principal Auditor Agon and his deputy, Moses Kusemererwa.

Jinja Branch: Principal Auditor Michael Omoding Noel.

Soroti Branch: Principal Auditor Michael Omagor.

Moroto Branch: Principal Auditor Samuel Akampurira.

Hoima Branch: Principal Auditor Tracy Turyakira, who previously faced scrutiny over a financial scandal during her tenure at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

Kampala Headquarters: The Principal Auditor for Central Government (identity currently withheld) alongside several junior auditors.

Internal Friction and Family Ties Tested

The sudden suspensions have sparked panic within the ranks, with a section of auditors describing the measures as selective interdictions driven by internal intrigue. However, Akol’s decision to interdict Agon and Michael Omoding Noel—who are his immediate nephews—has drawn significant attention. Sources within the institution note that sacrificing his own relatives highlights the Auditor General’s determination to maintain a non-partisan stance in purging the country’s chief audit body.

As the second phase of investigations rolls out, operations at Audit House remain under intense public scrutiny while authorities determine the full extent of the compromised audit reports.
