MAKINDYE ​KAMPALA 05 August 2026— Sports Club Villa captain David Owori has been hospitalized in critical condition following an assault by unidentified assailants.

​According to an official statement released by the Ugandan Premier League club on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, the versatile defender and team leader was targeted on Tuesday night near his residence in Makindye.

​Statement Details & Official Reaction

​The club official statement, signed by SC Villa President Omar Ahmed, confirmed the violent incident:

“SC Villa Football Club is deeply saddened to inform its supporters, the football community, and the general public that the Club’s Captain, David Owori, is suspected to have been attacked and assaulted by unknown individuals last night. David is currently hospitalized, in critical condition, and receiving urgent medical care. The Club and his family are doing everything possible to ensure that he overcomes this incident.”

​Club spokesperson Asan Kasingye clarified that initial online rumors claiming Owori was involved in a motorcycle (boda boda) accident were incorrect. Owori was ambushed around 8:00 PM and was subsequently admitted to Case Clinic in Kampala for emergency care.

​Police Investigation Underway

​Police authorities have been formally notified, and investigations are currently ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
