KAMPALA UGANDA: 03 AUG 2026— The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the official electoral roadmap for the parliamentary by-election in Adjumani West Constituency, alongside the election for the Female Older Persons Councillor representing Pachara Sub-County in Adjumani District.
The announcement was formally made in a press release issued on July 30, 2026, signed by EC Chairperson Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon.
The vacancy in Adjumani West follows the passing of former Second Deputy Prime Minister and long-serving area Member of Parliament, Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali, who died on July 18, 2026, at Nakasero Hospital.
According to the official program released by the electoral body:
August 3, 2026: Stakeholders’ meeting and official press briefing to launch the local exercise.
August 5–7, 2026: Update of the National Voters’ Register at parish level across the constituency.
August 7, 2026: Cut-off date for new voter registration and transfer of voting locations within Adjumani West.
August 17–26, 2026: Public display of the Voters’ Register at all polling stations in Adjumani West.
September 7–8, 2026: Nomination of candidates at Adjumani District Headquarters.
September 9–15, 2026: Campaign period for all nominated candidates.
September 16, 2026: Polling day for the Female Older Persons Councillor for Pachara Sub-County.
September 17, 2026: Polling day and tallying of results for the Adjumani West Member of Parliament.
Justice Byabakama called upon all political parties, candidates, and voters in Adjumani West Constituency to participate peacefully and adhere strictly to the guidelines outlined by the Commission throughout the electoral period.
