KAMPALA, UGANDA: 03 MAY 2026— The Government of Uganda is taking a bold stand against social misconceptions that hinder economic progress by highlighting the vital role of women’s voices in both business and family life. Under the Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) Project, the initiative is actively dismantling the myth that supporting women’s empowerment equates to a “loss of control.”
Managed by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development in collaboration with the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) and the World Bank, the GROW Project aims to scale up women-led businesses while fostering more harmonious and resilient homes.
The latest campaign from the GROW Project targets deep-seated social dynamics, clarifying that when women are given the platform to make choices, the result is not conflict, but unity.
The initiative emphasizes that prioritizing a woman’s voice leads to: Built Unity: Shared decision-making creates a partnership-based approach to business and domestic challenges, Mutual Respect: Acknowledging women’s expertise in technical and economic sectors fosters a culture of respect, and Strengthened Families: Decisions made together regarding finances and business growth lead to more sustainable household outcomes.
“Respect her voice. Support her choices,” the project advocates, reinforcing the idea that an empowered woman is a partner in progress, not a threat to stability.
The GROW Project continues its mission to increase the number and productivity of women-owned enterprises across all districts. By providing access to capital, technical training, and market opportunities, the project is helping women enter high-value sectors—such as construction and manufacturing—traditionally dominated by men.
This holistic approach ensures that as women grow their businesses, they also gain the social standing and confidence to contribute meaningfully to their families and the national economy.
