Empowering the Economy: The GROW Project’s Mission for Ugandan Women

KAMPALA UGANDA: 03 MAY 2026— The Government of Uganda is moving forward with a transformative agenda to redefine the landscape of female entrepreneurship through the Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) Project.

A flagship initiative of the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, implemented in coordination with the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) and funded by the World Bank, the project is focused on a singular goal: increasing the productivity, scale, and competitiveness of women-owned businesses across the nation.

The GROW Project is built on the principle that female economic participation is a catalyst for broader societal development. Under the banner “Her Participation Builds Progress,” the initiative underscores that when a woman is empowered to make business decisions, the benefits extend directly into the home and community.

According to project insights, supporting women-led enterprises results in:Enhanced Household Stability: Providing a more secure financial future for dependents, Improved Business Performance: Professionalizing enterprises to compete in local and regional markets, and Strengthened Family Planning: Enabling women to have a greater voice in the long-term health and size of their families.

”Support her participation. Strengthen the family.”

The project targets the specific bottlenecks that often prevent women-led micro-enterprises from growing into medium-sized firms. By providing a mix of technical training, infrastructure support, and access to finance, the GROW Project ensures that women have the tools necessary to succeed in sectors ranging from agriculture to manufacturing.
