EC Releases Official Roadmap for Kikuube District Chairperson By-Election

KAMPALA UGANDA: 21 April 2026– The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially approved and released the strategic roadmap for the upcoming by-election of the District Chairperson for Kikuube District. The seat fell vacant following the tragic death of Hon. Peter Banura Araali, who passed away in a road accident on the evening of Saturday, April 4, 2026.

The Commission  Chairperson, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, issued the comprehensive program outlining a tight schedule of activities beginning in late April and culminating in the final vote in June 2026.

The electoral process will kick off with a Stakeholders’ Meeting and Press Briefing on April 27, 2026. This will be immediately followed by a crucial update of the National Voters’ Register at the parish level, scheduled from April 28 to April 30, 2026.

Residents of Kikuube are advised that April 30 serves as the strict cut-off date for both new voter registrations and requests for the transfer of voting locations within the district.

Prospective candidates for the LC5 Chairperson seat are expected to present their credentials for nomination at the Kikuube District Headquarters on May 25 and May 26, 2026.

Following the nominations, there will be a Harmonization meeting to coordinate campaign programs and form Liaison Committees which will take place on May 27.

Official campaigning will span twelve days, running from May 28 through June 8, 2026.

Accreditation: Political parties and observers can process their accreditation tags between May 26 and June 1.

To ensure transparency, the Commission has scheduled the issuance of Voter Location Slips (VLS) by Parish Supervisors from June 1 to June 10. Training for polling officials, biometric equipment (BVVK) operators, and party agents is slated for June 4 and June 5.

The exercise will reach its climax on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, designated as the official Polling Day. Voting will be followed immediately by the tallying and announcement of results at the designated district center.

”The Electoral Commission calls on all stakeholders in Kikuube District to participate in the above activities in accordance with the guidelines for the by-election,” stated Justice Byabakama.
