FDC Katonga faction resolve to Suspend Amuriat, appoint Erias Lukwago as president

The Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) extra-ordinary delegate’s conference which convened today at Katonga Road offices resolved among others; to suspend top party leaders including president Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat, Secretary General Nandala Mafabi, and treasurer general Godfrey Ekanya.

The parallel delegate’s conference whose legality is still contested also proposed to replace the opposition leadership at Najjanankumbi with Erias Lukwago as party president, Harlod Kaija as interim secretary general, and Francis Mwijukye as treasurer general -all in the interim.

Among a raft of proposals read out by the suspended party spokesperson Hon. Semujju Nganda, the delegate’s conference resolved to also suspend FDC electoral commissioners led by Toterebuka Bamwenda and extending the party leadership term by six months up to October 8, 2023.

In the interim, the party electoral commission has been replaced by Hon. Kabaziguruka (chairman), and deputies : Hon. Jack Wamayi Wamanga, Hon. Ogongson and Elizabeth Walabye. The delegates according to Semujju has set aside “fraudulent elections” organized by Toterebuka Bamwenda, and interim commission is expected to organize free and fair elections.

FDC currently, has two factions both claiming party leadership with one at Katonga and another one at Najjanankumbi. The Najjanankumbi faction had set another Delegate’s conference for October 6, 2023 where new leaders will be elected following the expiry of the current term in April.

Both the Najjanankumbi and Katonga factions had dismissed each other’s plan to organize National Delegate’s conference on account of illegality. Police had also declined security for the Katonga conference saying the two side must first harmonize positions lest they clash.
