NDA intercept Coffee adulterated with ‘Viagra’ on Ugandan market

Uganda’s National Drug Authority (NDA) has raised a red flag over a coffee drink L-Power coffee which it found adulterated with an erectile dysfunction drug.

L-Power coffee, according to laboratory tests by NDA, is adulterated with Tadalafil -a prescription drug for erectile dysfunction but with serious side effects including extreme respiratory and cardiac problems, urinary disorders, and sometimes leading to coma or death.

More so, NDA says Tadalafil must be used under strict instructions from a qualified medical professional, and therefore risky.

According to the manufacturer of the product, L-Power coffee is advertised as “Mega Energy Boosting coffee, Men’s Health Formulation, and an Ultimate ingredient to increase stamina and relation time.”

In a statement issued on August 22, 2023 NDA indicated that their import control team intercepted L-Power coffee concealed as a nutritional supplement but after positive results of adulteration were confirmed, the body formally importers of this product to destroy them, but also recall all products on market which could have been sneaked into Uganda.

NDA also directed all pharmacies, drug shops, supermarkets, online markets or any drug and nutritional health supplement dealers to immediately stop stocking, sale, distribution or dealing in L-Power coffee.
